Pirastro specifies this Medium-gauge, ball-end string for 3/4 double bass. Designed for arco, or bowed playing, and pizzicato, or plucking, it offers a dark tonal character with substantial presence.

For bassists seeking a gut-core D replacement, Oliv supports both strong bowing and expressive plucked passages. It accommodates a heavier bow arm while retaining a dark sound, and plucked notes carry a growling character. Choose this orchestra-tuning bass string when replacing the same configuration or selecting a chrome-wound gut option for your instrument's D position.

Pirastro manufactures, winds, and polishes the sheep gut core by hand. Manufacturer part number 241200 identifies this specific configuration, helping players match the correct replacement. Rust-red peg-end silk and white/olive-green tailpiece wrapping provide visual identification. The ball-end fitting connects to compatible tailpiece hardware. Confirm instrument fit before ordering, using Pirastro's published 3/4 size designation as the reference.

Key Features

Sheep Gut Core: Supports tonal variety and a dark sound character.

Chrome-Steel Winding: Combines metal wrapping with traditional gut construction.

Bowed Performance: Accommodates a heavier bow arm for powerful arco passages.

Plucked Character: Produces a dark, growling sound for pizzicato playing.

Ball-End Attachment: Fits compatible tailpiece hardware designed to retain a ball.

Handcrafted Core: Pirastro forms, winds, and polishes the gut by hand.

Technical Specifications

Brand: Pirastro

Series: Oliv

Manufacturer Part Number: 241200

Product Type: Individual double bass D string

Manufacturer Size Designation: 3/4

Tuning: Orchestra

Gauge: Medium (Mittel)

Core Material: Sheep gut

Winding Material: Chrome steel

Tailpiece End: Ball

Playing Tension: 56.2 lb

Peg-End Silk: Rust red

Tailpiece Wrapping: White/olive green

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0630/3085/3829/files/1-pirastro-1obd_2149470e-fbf8-40a2-9d31-9e899c28b82e.jpg?v=1793203853
