This non-rigid version offers five gauges with a knot end. Choose from 15 1/4 through 16 1/4 PM to match your preferred tension, with tube packaging for the straight string.

For violinists selecting a replacement gut G string, gauge provides a useful starting point when reviewing an existing setup. The 15 3/4 option matches the G gauge in Pirastro's medium Oliv set. Choose a lower number for less tension or a higher number for more tension. When buying a gold-silver wound string, check both the gauge and packaging designation to identify the intended variant.

Pirastro forms, winds, and polishes the gut core by hand. All five choices share the same core material, winding, instrument size, and tailpiece termination, so the gauge selection determines the listed tension difference. For an accurate replacement, compare the article number below with your current package, and confirm that your tailpiece accommodates a knot end.

Key Features

Sheep Gut Core: Provides traditional gut construction for your violin setup.

Gold-Silver Winding: Combines metal winding with the natural core.

Five Gauge Choices: Lets you select a specific tension across quarter-PM increments.

Handcrafted Finish: Uses manual core preparation, winding, and polishing.

Knot End: Fits tailpieces that accept this termination.

Tube Packaging: Supplies the straight-packaged version.

Gauge Differences and String Tension

PM means Pirastro Meter, the manufacturer's gauge designation.
