Preload is the amount of pressure exerted on a strike's keeper, causing the mechanism to fail to release. This can be due to a variety of factors, including air pressure, a misaligned door, or improper installation. However, the CX-EPD1289L RIM strike is specifically designed to function even under these conditions, where other strikes would fail.
