Bass and guitar can produce waveforms that sit mostly above or below the zero line, which can cause uneven compression where some notes jump out and others get buried—SYMMETRY balances the waveform so notes speak more consistently.
On bass and guitar, increasing SYMMETRY can help stabilize levels and keep notes even across the neck. For drums and other percussive sources where transients are the priority, reducing SYMMETRY can preserve the punch while still benefiting from controlled dynamics.
