Pirastro Passione Violin D String, Silver-Wound Gut - 14

Pirastro Passione Violin D String

The Pirastro Passione Violin D String combines a sheep gut core with silver winding for 4/4 violins. Five gauges, from 13 through 14, offer progressively higher published tensions. Every version uses a ball end, allowing players to select string thickness while retaining the same construction and attachment type.

Choose this silver-wound gut violin string when replacing a worn D or reviewing your instrument's string balance. Gauge 13 1/2 is the D supplied in Pirastro's medium Passione set, providing a useful reference when comparing options. Lower numbers identify thinner choices with lower published tension; higher numbers identify thicker choices with greater load. Check your existing gauge when ordering a replacement for a familiar setup.

Pirastro prepares, winds, and polishes the gut core by hand. For teachers, performers, and instrument technicians, the published gauge specifications provide a practical basis for selecting a replacement violin D string. Compare the five options below, then match the gauge to your playing preferences and instrument. Confirm the 4/4 size and compatibility with a ball attachment before installation.
