The Blackmagic Design URSA Live Encoder is a purpose-built processing module that transforms the URSA Cine Immersive 100G camera into a live immersive production tool. Installing into the camera's URSA Media Module slot, the encoder takes the high frame rate stereoscopic image streams and compresses them in real time, allowing the camera to feed broadcast-grade live workflows directly from the body. It is engineered specifically for next-generation immersive and stereoscopic 3D live broadcasting, where bandwidth efficiency and IP-native delivery are critical.

At the heart of the URSA Live Encoder is hardware encoding to Apple ProRes - selectable as ProRes HQ, ProRes, or ProRes LT - which is then output as SMPTE 2110-22 constant bit-rate IP video over the camera's high-speed 100G Ethernet port. This standards-based ST 2110 output drops the camera straight into modern IP broadcast infrastructure, routers, and switchers without additional gateway hardware, making it ideal for live sports, events, and venue-based immersive productions.

Because the encoded camera data rate stays under 50 Gb/s, the URSA Live Encoder lets you combine two cameras onto a single 100G Ethernet connection, reducing cabling and simplifying multi-camera immersive rigs. For broadcasters and rental houses already invested in the URSA Cine Immersive platform, this module is the key to unlocking real-time live operation alongside the camera's recording capabilities.
