Its 2.2 x 0.12 mil Microlinear profile provides the specified contact geometry for compatible Audio-Technica moving-magnet cartridges, making it a direct replacement option for maintaining an existing turntable cartridge setup.

Designed for the AT-VM740xML and also compatible with the VM540ML and VM740ML cartridges, the AT-VMN40xML gives turntable owners a way to replace the removable stylus without replacing the entire cartridge. Audio-Technica's shared AT-VMx and VM Series body design also allows compatible replacement styli to be exchanged across supported cartridge bodies, excluding mono models.

The AT-VMN40xML operates with a tracking-force range of 1.8 to 2.2 g, with 2.0 g specified as the standard setting. Its nude Microlinear construction and aluminum cantilever make it suited to listeners replacing a worn stylus or maintaining a compatible Audio-Technica cartridge.
