Five selectable polar patterns, three high-pass filters, and two attenuation pads let engineers adapt the microphone to vocals, instruments, room capture, stereo techniques, and high-SPL sources from a single platform.

Its cardioid, wide cardioid, hypercardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-eight patterns provide substantial flexibility for project studios, professional recording rooms, and mobile production. Selectable 40 Hz, 80 Hz, and 160 Hz filters help manage rumble, proximity buildup, and unwanted low-frequency energy. For drums, percussion, brass, guitar cabinets, and other loud sources, -10 dB and -20 dB pads extend the microphone's usable sound-pressure capability.

The OC616 uses Austrian Audio Open Acoustic Technology to minimize reflective surfaces around the capsule and reduce unwanted internal acoustic interference.
