Description
The Behringer RD-78 is a classic analog drum machine that faithfully recreates the legendary Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm of the late 1970s, the same analog warmth heard on countless new wave, disco, and synth-pop records. Built around true analog voice circuitry rather than samples, the RD-78 delivers the organic, character-rich percussion that defined an era, while a modern, compact, and road-ready chassis makes it equally at home in the studio and on stage. For producers chasing authentic vintage drum tones without the cost or fragility of a vintage unit, the RD-78 is a purpose-built, affordable answer.
At its core the RD-78 packs 15 analog drum sounds, including bass drum, snare, hand clap, rim shot, metallic beat, maracas, tambourine, guiro, clave, cow bell, and conga and bongo voices, all of which can sound simultaneously for full, layered grooves. Thirty-four iconic rhythm presets cover disco, funk, rock, new wave, and synth-pop, complete with fill-ins, rolls, and breaks, while an intuitive 16-step sequencer lets you program your own intricate patterns. With pattern chaining of up to 250 bars, you can build complete song structures or extended live sets directly on the device.
Connectivity is where the RD-78 truly modernizes the original. Ten individual 1/8" analog outputs send each drum voice to your mixer or interface for detailed processing and discrete recording, alongside a main mix output and a headphone jack for monitoring. MIDI In and Out, USB, and analog Sync (DIN sync) In and Out let the RD-78 lock tightly to DAWs, drum machines, and vintage gear, and two 1/4" pedal inputs add hands-free start/stop and variation control. With 18 knobs and 29 switches laid out for immediate, tactile control, the RD-78 invites real-time performance and deep sound shaping in any setup.
