The BOSS FZ-5 Fuzz Pedal uses COSM modeling technology to recreate three vintage-inspired fuzz circuits from the 1960s and 1970s. Selectable F, M, and O modes cover classic face-style, early transistor fuzz, and octave-fuzz responses, while the FUZZ control includes an extended BOOST range for more aggressive distortion.

Guitarists can choose the fuzz character that best fits a riff, lead tone, or retro rock arrangement without carrying several individual vintage-style pedals. The LEVEL control balances effect volume, while the FUZZ knob moves from modeled original gain behavior into additional boost. Its octave-fuzz mode can also produce pronounced upper-octave content for single-note lead lines.

The FZ-5 combines digital COSM modeling with the familiar compact BOSS pedal format, buffered bypass, and standard instrument-level connections. A 1 M ohm input impedance supports conventional guitar pedalboard integration, while power comes from the included 9 V alkaline battery or an optional PSA-series AC adapter. Current manufacturer specifications rate continuous alkaline battery operation at approximately four hours.
