The BOSS GK5-KIT-B is a professional divided pickup installation kit for integrating the GK-5B Serial GK system into 4-, 5-, or 6-string steel-string electric basses. It combines an adjustable GK-5B pickup with internal electronics, dedicated active/passive bass wiring, expanded controls, and a compact Serial GK connection for compatible BOSS synthesizer and V-Guitar systems.

Unlike the externally mounted GK-5B system, the GK5-KIT-B is intended for permanent internal customization by a qualified guitar or bass technician. Individual components can be positioned around the instrument to suit its body design and the player's preferred control layout. Once installed, the system can access the divided pickup, the bass's conventional pickups, or a blend of both signals.

A three-way momentary S1/S2 switch provides two assignable controls on compatible connected equipment, while the GK knob continuously adjusts volume or another supported parameter. The included LED indicates power status, and adjustable pickup sensor spacing accommodates many common bass bridges. Power comes from the connected Serial GK device, so the installed system requires no separate battery or external power supply.

Permanent GK-5B Integration

The pickup, control electronics, switches, connector plate, and LED can be positioned to suit the bass design, allowing a cleaner installation with controls located where they are convenient during performance.

GK, Bass, and Mixed Signal Selection

A three-way toggle switch selects the divided GK signal, the instrument's regular pickup signal, or a combination of both. Dedicated wiring supports conventional active or passive bass electronics, allowing the GK installation to operate alongside the instrument's normal pickup system instead of replacing it.

Assignable S1/S2 and GK Controls

The three-way momentary switch activates S1 and S2 functions that can be assigned according to the connected GK-compatible device. A 50-kohm GK control provides continuous adjustment of volume or another supported parameter, giving the player direct control without reaching for the connected processor.

Adjustable Pickup for 4- to 6-String Basses

The slim divided pickup supports adjustable sensor spacing from approximately 0.6" to 0.7". During installation, the pickup should be positioned close to the bridge and aligned with the instrument's strings according to BOSS installation specifications for reliable individual-string detection.

Serial GK and Legacy System Connectivity

The installed system connects through the BOSS Serial GK interface using a compatible BGK-series cable. Current Serial GK products can receive the signal directly, while the optional GKC-DA converter provides a path to compatible legacy equipment that uses the traditional 13-pin GK connection.

Professional Installation Required

The GK5-KIT-B requires physical modification of the bass for installation of the electronics, controls, connector hardware, and pickup. BOSS recommends having the work performed by a dealer, repair shop, or technician experienced with guitar and bass modification rather than treating this kit as a temporary user-mounted accessory.
