BOSS VG-800 V-Guitar Modeling and Multi-Effects Processor

The BOSS VG-800 V-Guitar processor combines next-generation instrument modeling, amp and effects processing, and the Serial GK divided-pickup interface for guitar and bass. It provides independent string processing, dedicated guitar and bass modes, alternate tunings, modeled instruments, synth-style sounds, and more than 150 effects in a compact floor-based processor.

With a compatible GK-5 or GK-5B divided pickup, the VG-800 can transform individual strings into electric guitars, acoustics, basses, synth textures, VIO sounds, and other modeled instruments. Dual Guitar and Dual Bass modes can layer two instruments or assign different sounds across selected strings, while harmony and individual-string bending expand performance possibilities beyond conventional effects processing.

The VG-800 also works as a complete amp and effects processor for standard guitar or bass pickups through its dedicated instrument input. Serial GK output supports expanded systems with devices such as the GM-800, while a stereo effects loop, USB-C multichannel audio/MIDI, TRS MIDI, external control inputs, BOSS Tone Studio editing, and guitar-to-MIDI functions support stage and studio workflows.

Key Features

Independent String Modeling with Serial GK

A compatible divided pickup captures each string separately and sends the signals through the Serial GK connection. This allows the VG-800 to process pitch, tuning, panning, instrument type, and other parameters on a string-by-string basis instead of treating the guitar or bass as a single combined signal.

Electric, Acoustic, Bass, VIO, and Synth Instruments

Guitar mode provides electric guitar, acoustic, Dual Guitar, electric bass, VIO Guitar, and synth instrument types. Bass mode offers electric bass, acoustic bass, Dual Bass, electric guitar, VIO Bass, and synth options. Modeled sounds include conventional stringed instruments plus textures inspired by instruments such as banjo, sitar, and the Roland GR-300 analog guitar synthesizer.

Alternate Tunings, Harmony, and String Bending

Each string can be retuned independently without physically changing string tension. Players can build alternate and down tunings, create harmony parts from single notes or chords, and assign individual-string pitch bends to a footswitch or expression pedal for pedal-steel, B-bender, and other performance effects.

Full Amp and Multi-Effects Processing

The VG-800 includes more than 150 effects and amplifier processing options. Effects can be applied to modeled sounds and the dedicated conventional guitar input, while the stereo-capable send and return connections allow external pedals or processors to be incorporated into the internal signal chain.

Standard Guitar and Bass Input

A conventional guitar or bass can connect directly to the 1/4" Guitar Input for access to the VG-800's amplifiers and effects. Instrument-modeling functions require a compatible Serial GK divided pickup, so the standard input provides a separate path for traditional pickup-based processing.

Multichannel USB Recording and Re-Processing

The USB-C audio and MIDI interface supports multichannel computer workflows. Users can capture the stereo mix, modeled instruments, direct conventional pickup signal, or individual unprocessed GK string signals. Recorded string signals can then be routed back through the VG-800 for later re-guitar or re-bass processing.

Serial GK System Expansion

The GK output can send the divided-pickup signal to another compatible Serial GK device, including a GM-800 or second VG-800. This supports expanded systems without requiring a second divided pickup and allows combined audio from connected Serial GK processors to remain within the digital workflow.
