The Nektar Impact GX49/GX61 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller provides 49-key and 61-key options for music production, recording, and performance. Featuring full-size velocity-sensitive synth-action keys, pitch-bend and modulation wheels, dedicated transport controls, and Nektar DAW Integration, these compact keyboards offer hands-on control over compatible digital audio workstations and virtual instruments.

Designed for producers, composers, keyboardists, and home studio musicians, the Impact GX series combines expressive playing with convenient software control. The GX49 features 49 keys across four octaves, making it suitable for compact production workstations and portable recording setups. The GX61 provides 61 keys across five octaves, offering additional range for two-handed performances, chord progressions, and complex arrangements. Both models feature four selectable velocity curves and three fixed velocity settings, allowing players to customize keyboard response. Dedicated octave and transpose controls extend the available playing range, while an assignable control knob provides direct access to MIDI parameters.

Both controllers connect through USB Type-B and receive power directly from a compatible computer or supported USB host. Nektar's DAW Integration enables transport, track navigation, mixer volume, and additional software functions without constant mouse interaction. The GX49 includes the complete Impact GX control system, featuring transport buttons, assignable MIDI controls, dedicated pitch-bend and modulation wheels, and octave and transpose functions. It offers a practical playing range for recording melodies, programming bass lines, performing chords, and controlling software instruments.

Measuring approximately 31.6" across its longest dimension and weighing 4.8 lb, the GX49 provides an easily positioned keyboard for compact workstations and mobile music production.

Nektar Impact GX61 - 61-Key MIDI Controller

The Nektar Impact GX61 expands the playing range to 61 full-size velocity-sensitive keys spanning five octaves. This configuration is ideal for musicians who prefer additional keyboard range when composing, performing arrangements, or controlling virtual instruments.

Its extended keybed accommodates two-handed passages, layered chord voicings, and complex melodies while retaining the compact depth and streamlined controls of the GX series.

The GX61 includes the same MIDI assignment capabilities, transport controls, performance wheels, and software integration features as the GX49. Measuring approximately 38" across its longest dimension and weighing 6 lb, it provides additional playing range without requiring a substantially deeper workstation.

Expressive Full-Size Synth-Action Keyboard

Four Velocity Curves and Three Fixed Settings

Both GX keyboards feature velocity-sensitive keys that communicate playing dynamics to compatible MIDI instruments.

Four selectable velocity curves allow players to adjust how the controller responds to different playing strengths. Musicians can select a more responsive curve for lighter playing or an alternative curve that better suits their performance technique.

Three fixed velocity settings provide consistent MIDI velocity values regardless of how firmly the keys are pressed. These settings are useful for electronic music production, percussion programming, and other applications requiring uniform note velocity.

Dedicated Pitch-Bend and Modulation Wheels

The Impact GX series incorporates separate pitch-bend and modulation wheels for expressive performance control.

The pitch-bend wheel provides real-time pitch adjustment with compatible instruments. The modulation wheel transmits MIDI continuous controller information and can be reassigned to control other supported parameters.

These controls support synthesizer performances, orchestral expression, electronic music production, and other applications requiring dynamic sound manipulation.

Octave and Transpose Functions

Two multicolor LED-equipped octave buttons allow musicians to shift the keyboard's playing range without changing the physical key layout.

The GX49 supports shifting three octaves downward and four octaves upward. The GX61 provides an extended keyboard range with additional octave-shifting capability.

Dedicated transpose controls support adjustments of up to 12 semitones in either direction, allowing musical passages to be performed in different keys.

The transpose buttons can also be reassigned to change the global MIDI channel or transmit MIDI program messages.

Nektar DAW Integration for Music Production

Dedicated Transport and Navigation Controls

The Impact GX series features eight buttons dedicated to digital audio workstation operation, including seven dual-function buttons and a Shift control.

When used with compatible Nektar DAW Integration software, these controls provide access to playback, recording, track navigation, and other frequently used production functions.

The integration system can also support locator navigation, mixer level adjustment, patch selection, and opening or closing software windows, depending on the connected DAW.

This arrangement allows producers to control essential recording functions while remaining focused on keyboard performance.

14 Assignable MIDI Button Functions

Seven control buttons support two programmable MIDI assignments each, providing 14 assignable functions through primary and secondary operating layers.

Users can configure supported buttons to transmit MIDI continuous controller messages, program changes, or MIDI Machine Control commands.

These assignments provide flexibility for music production applications without dedicated Nektar DAW Integration support.

Assignable Rotary Control

A single rotary potentiometer provides hands-on control over a selectable MIDI parameter.

Its default assignment controls mixer volume in supported workflows, although users can assign the knob to other MIDI continuous controller functions.

This control can be used for adjusting virtual instrument parameters, software mixer settings, and compatible effect parameters.

MIDI Configuration and Custom Control

Global MIDI Channel Selection

The GX49 and GX61 provide access to MIDI configuration settings through their integrated Setup function.

Users can select the global MIDI channel, configure controller assignments, and transmit program change messages without requiring a separate hardware programming interface.

The keyboard also supports Bank Select MSB and LSB messages for compatible MIDI instruments and software.

Custom Controller Assignments

The modulation wheel, rotary knob, footswitch input, and assignable buttons can transmit configurable MIDI messages.

This allows musicians to create personalized control layouts for virtual instruments, recording software, and supported MIDI applications.

Controller assignments are retained when power is removed, allowing customized settings to remain available for future sessions.

USB MIDI Connectivity and Power

USB Type-B Computer Connection

Both Impact GX models feature a rear-panel USB Type-B connection for MIDI communication and operating power.

The USB interface supports class-compliant MIDI operation, allowing compatible computers to recognize the controller without requiring dedicated drivers for basic MIDI functionality.

A USB power requirement of 500 mA supports operation through compatible USB hosts.

Windows, Mac, Linux, and iOS Compatibility

The Impact GX series supports MIDI communication with compatible Windows and Mac computers. Linux systems can also use the controllers when an appropriate USB MIDI driver is installed.

Compatible Apple iPads can connect through a suitable USB camera adapter. The adapter is sold separately, and compatibility depends on the iPad model and connected software.

Nektar's enhanced DAW Integration requires compatible software and applicable integration files. Supported operating systems and DAW versions should be checked before installation.

Assignable Sustain Footswitch Input

A rear-panel 1/4" TS footswitch input accommodates a compatible sustain pedal or other supported footswitch.

The input can be assigned to transmit MIDI continuous controller messages, allowing musicians to customize its operation for supported applications.

Included Bitwig Studio 8-Track Software

The Nektar Impact GX series includes access to Bitwig Studio 8-Track, a digital audio workstation designed for recording, arranging, and producing music.

The software provides up to eight audio or MIDI project tracks and includes a collection of more than 50 instruments and effects.

Bitwig Studio 8-Track also supports compatible third-party VST plugins, allowing musicians to incorporate additional virtual instruments and processing tools into their production workflow.

The included software provides a starting point for composing music, recording MIDI performances, and developing complete arrangements using the GX keyboard controller.
