It is a natural first interchangeable-lens camera for smartphone upgraders and a light everyday carry for experienced shooters.

The new 14-42mm III weighs just 125g, extends simply by turning the zoom ring with no release switch, and focuses down to 0.13m at the wide end for food, flowers and texture shots. Like the body, it is IPX1 splashproof, so the whole kit can keep shooting when the weather turns.

Inside the body, a TruePic IX processor drives 121-point all-cross-type phase-detection AF with AI human and pet detection, 5-axis stabilization rated to 5.5 stops with this very lens, and in-camera tools such as the Profile Control switch, Live ND, Live Composite and Focus Stacking. C4K/4K video, vertical video capture and USB-C webcam mode round out a capable creative package.
