OM System UFL-3 Underwater Flash with TTL and RC Wireless Control, 75m

Water absorbs red light within the first few meters, so a dedicated strobe is the single biggest upgrade for color and contrast in underwater photos. The UFL-3 is a compact Olympus underwater flash with a guide number of 22, a 5400K color temperature and coverage matching a 24mm (35mm-equivalent) lens, waterproof on its own to 75 m (246 ft).

It connects to compatible Olympus housings such as the PT-059 through a fiber-optic cable, supporting TTL auto exposure as well as manual output set on the light level dial, plus RC wireless modes and a slave mode for multi-flash setups. A built-in target light helps with aiming and focusing in dark water, and a clip-on diffuser widens and softens the light for wide-angle scenes.

Four AA alkaline or NiMH cells power it, delivering roughly 240 flashes per set on alkalines or about 330 on 1900 mAh NiMH, with full-power recycling in about 2.6 or 1.9 seconds respectively. At approximately 465 g without batteries and only about 10 g of weight in the water once loaded, it balances well on a short arm, and the arm mount knob, silicone grease and O-ring remover needed for setup and maintenance come in the box.
