Built as the larger, stiffer edition of Ortofon's two-point protractor, the Premium Cartridge Alignment Tool is a rigid template that Ortofon rates at 75 percent more rigidity than its standard tool, with high-visibility red printing so the grid lines and null points read clearly under a desk lamp. The extra size gives you more to hold and keeps the tool flat on the record surface while you adjust the cartridge.

The geometry is a two-zero-point Baerwald alignment, the same null points Ortofon uses in its own setup guidance, and it suits any standard half-inch-mount cartridge on a conventional pivoted tonearm regardless of brand. Set the tool on the platter, lower the stylus onto the first point, sight along the cantilever against the reference line, slide the cartridge in the headshell until the cantilever runs parallel, then repeat at the second point. When both points agree, overhang and offset angle are correct and tracking error across the record is at its minimum.

Correct alignment is the cheapest upgrade a turntable gets: it lowers distortion toward the inner grooves, evens out channel balance and keeps the stylus from wearing unevenly.
