Pirastro Obligato Viola A String, Aluminum-Wound Steel - Heavy

Pirastro Obligato Viola A String

The Pirastro Obligato Viola A String features a steel core with aluminum winding for 4/4 violas. Choose soft, medium, or strong gauge to select your preferred published tension. Every option includes a removable ball end, while separate article numbers identify each gauge for accurate replacement ordering.

Choose this aluminum-wound steel viola string when replacing an existing A or reviewing your instrument's string balance. Soft provides the lowest published tension, medium sits between the alternatives, and strong provides the highest. For a familiar replacement, match the gauge printed on your current packaging. When considering a change, compare the tension figures below with your playing preferences and instrument setup.

For performers, teachers, and instrument technicians, Pirastro's gauge labels and identification colors provide practical reference points. Weich means soft, Mittel means medium, and Stark means strong. These names describe the three options within this listing. Confirm the 4/4 designation and your tailpiece or fine tuner's attachment requirements before installation. Retain the selected article number to simplify future orders for your preferred replacement viola A string.
