Sound carts, broadcast racks, and equipment rooms all benefit from a speaker that listens without tying up a pair of headphones. The SpeakEasy R1 is a self-contained stereo speaker system powered from 12VDC and built into a single rack space, with a low 55mA idle draw that suits battery-powered carts.

Two XLR inputs accept a stereo line level signal from -10dBV to +4dBu, and an XLR/1/4 in combo jack also takes a stereo signal on its 1/4 in connector, so a single TRS to TRS cable from a mixer's headphone output can feed the whole unit. Power arrives on either a 4-pin XLR (pin 4 positive, pin 1 ground) or a 2.1mm coaxial jack, and the R1 runs on anything from 9 to 20VDC.

On the front panel an illuminated power button, master volume, and a source selector let you monitor left only, right only, stereo, or a summed mono mix. Plugging headphones into the front 1/4 in jack mutes the speakers automatically, and the same volume and source controls apply to both outputs.
