Key Features

True Analog TR-808 and TR-909 Drum Circuits

The Roland TR-1000 incorporates a newly developed analog sound engine containing 16 drum circuits based on the original TR-808 and TR-909 designs. These circuits reproduce the electronic drum synthesis architecture associated with Roland's influential rhythm instruments.

Unlike purely digital recreations, the analog engine generates drum sounds through dedicated analog circuitry. Roland combines these circuits with expanded parameters that allow users to adjust tone characteristics beyond the controls available on the original machines.

The analog sound engine supports traditional electronic drum sounds, including bass drums, snares, toms, hi-hats, and other percussion elements associated with classic Roland rhythm programming.

ACB Modeling, FM Synthesis, and PCM Sound Generation

Alongside its analog circuits, the TR-1000 includes several digital sound engines for creating additional percussion, bass, and synthesizer sounds.

Roland's Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology models the behavior of electronic circuits to reproduce detailed instrument characteristics. The available ACB collection includes 75 tones, incorporating 21 circuit-bent 8X and 9X models inspired by classic Roland drum machines.

FM synthesis uses frequency modulation to create metallic percussion, electronic tones, and evolving digital textures. Additional virtual analog and PCM-based instruments expand the instrument's capabilities beyond conventional drum sounds.

The onboard sound generators include 16 analog tones, 75 ACB tones, seven FM tones, and 340 PCM tones. A separate sample library provides 2,121 sample tones for rhythm programming and sound design.

Integrated Stereo Sampling and Resampling

The TR-1000 includes an integrated sampler that allows musicians to record external audio, capture internal performances, and manipulate imported sounds.

Sampling operates at 16-bit linear resolution and a 48 kHz sample rate. Each individual sample can have a maximum duration of 16 minutes.

Users can import WAV, AIFF, and MP3 files directly into the instrument. The dedicated TR-1000 App extends supported import formats to include FLAC and M4A.

Integrated time-stretching allows sample playback to follow project tempo changes. BPM synchronization helps maintain rhythmic alignment between sampled material and programmed patterns.

Non-destructive slicing provides control over individual sections of recorded audio without permanently altering the original sample. Stereo resampling also allows sounds and effects to be captured for further processing.

46 GB of User Sample Storage

The TR-1000 provides 64 GB of onboard memory, with 46 GB allocated to user storage. This capacity supports the creation and organization of custom drum sounds, loops, sampled instruments, and other audio material.

USB flash drives can be used for supported backup, restoration, sample import, and export operations. Compatible external storage devices are sold separately.

Advanced TR-REC Step Sequencer

The TR-1000 expands Roland's traditional TR-REC programming workflow with advanced timing, track control, and performance features.

Its sequencer incorporates four layer tracks and six single tracks, plus a dedicated part for trigger output. Each pattern variation contains 16 steps, with eight variations available per pattern.

Four fill-in patterns per pattern provide additional rhythmic options for transitions and performance arrangements.

Probability, Motion Recording, and Flexible Timing

Step probability allows users to determine the likelihood of individual notes playing, introducing controlled variation into repeating patterns.

Motion recording captures changes to sound parameters, allowing filters, envelopes, effects, and other settings to evolve throughout a sequence.

Independent track direction settings support forward, reverse, pendulum, and additional playback behaviors. Track-level shuffle and off-grid timing controls provide alternatives to rigid quantized programming.

These functions support both precisely synchronized electronic rhythms and patterns with more varied timing characteristics.

Song Mode and Pattern Arrangements

Dedicated song mode allows musicians to organize patterns and variations into longer arrangements. Users can establish playback sequences, repeat sections, and create structured performances without continuously changing patterns manually.

The instrument stores up to 2,048 user patterns and 2,048 user drum kits across 16 projects.

Four Layer Tracks for Advanced Sound Design

Four dedicated layer tracks allow two independent sound generators to operate within each track. These generators can be combined to create layered sounds or programmed separately for additional rhythmic complexity.

Individual tracks include sound-generation controls, compression, multimode filtering, equalization, amplitude shaping, and envelope adjustment.

Additional capabilities include internal sidechain processing, customizable output routing, and low-frequency oscillators with multiple modulation destinations.

This architecture enables complex percussion sounds, layered bass drums, evolving synthesizer textures, and other hybrid instruments without requiring external processing equipment.

Analog Filter, Drive, and Digital Effects

The TR-1000 incorporates an extensive effects architecture for processing individual instruments, sampled material, and complete mixes.

Its stereo analog effects section includes a state-variable filter inspired by classic Roland operational transconductance amplifier designs. Dedicated analog drive provides additional harmonic saturation.

Digital processing includes instrument effects, amplifier processing, compression, filters, reverb, delay, and master effects.

The available effects collection includes two filter types, two amplifier types, two compressor types, 17 instrument effects, six reverb types, four delay types, and 14 master effects.

Selected master processors draw from Roland's established effects library, including Vinyl Sim processing associated with the SP-303 and SP-404 and Dimension D-style spatial processing.

Hands-On Performance Controls and Morph Slider

The TR-1000 provides direct access to sound-generation parameters through a comprehensive arrangement of knobs, faders, dedicated buttons, and step-sequencer controls.

Sixteen illuminated step buttons support traditional rhythm programming, live input, and performance functions. The interface also provides access to instrument levels, sound parameters, effects, and sequencing options.

Assignable Morph Control

The integrated Morph slider allows multiple parameters to be adjusted through a single physical control. Users can assign parameter combinations to create coordinated sound changes during performances.

Each pattern can contain its own Morph configuration, making it possible to establish different transitions and performance behaviors for individual arrangements.

Parameter Snapshots and Step Looping

The snapshot function stores instrument parameter configurations for immediate recall during playback. Up to 16 snapshots are available per track.

Step looping allows users to repeat selected portions of a pattern, creating rhythmic variations and performance transitions without permanently changing the underlying sequence.

Professional Analog Audio Connectivity

The Roland TR-1000 provides flexible analog audio connections for recording, live mixing, and integration with external instruments.

A stereo main output connects to audio interfaces, mixers, and recording systems. A dedicated stereo analog effects output provides separate routing for signals processed through the analog effects section.

Ten individual output connections allow sounds to be routed separately for external mixing and processing. These connections can also function as analog trigger outputs for compatible equipment.

Two external audio inputs support stereo or dual-mono connections for external instruments, sample recording, and signal processing.

A dedicated front-panel headphone connection provides convenient monitoring with independent volume adjustment.

MIDI, DIN Sync, and Modular Synthesizer Integration

The TR-1000 includes extensive synchronization options for combining modern production equipment with vintage electronic instruments.

Three 5-pin DIN MIDI connections provide MIDI input, output, and configurable output/thru functionality. The MIDI connections also support DIN Sync operation for compatible legacy rhythm instruments.

Dedicated miniature trigger/CV connections include trigger input, trigger output, filter control-voltage input, and clock output.

These connections support synchronization and control within compatible modular synthesizer systems and other electronic music equipment.

A project-level Sync Delay setting allows users to adjust synchronization timing when working with external devices.

USB-C Audio/MIDI Interface and Computer Integration

The TR-1000 functions as a multichannel USB-C audio/MIDI interface for connection to compatible computers and recording software.
