Description
The Thypoch Ksana 35mm f/2 ASPH is a pocketable, all-metal manual focus prime built for full-frame M-mount rangefinder photography. The 35mm focal length is the classic "wide-standard" perspective, and its 63-degree diagonal angle of view (54 degrees horizontal, 38 degrees vertical) closely mirrors the way the eye takes in a scene -- which is exactly why 35mm remains the default choice for street, documentary, travel, environmental portrait, and everyday shooting. At 198.6g and just 27mm long, the Ksana 35 is one of the smallest fast 35mm primes you can hang on a rangefinder body, so it balances naturally in the hand and never dominates the camera it is mounted on.
Optically, the Ksana 35mm pairs a vintage form factor with a thoroughly modern formula: 8 elements in 5 groups, including one aspherical (ASPH) element, one extra-low dispersion (ED) element and two high-refractive-index (HRI) elements. That combination delivers real sharpness and contrast across the 43.2mm full-frame image circle while keeping distortion and color fringing in check. The bright f/2 maximum aperture holds its own in low light and lifts a subject cleanly off its background, and the 10-blade iris keeps out-of-focus highlights round and the bokeh smooth and layered as you stop down through the f/2 to f/16 range.
What separates the Ksana from a purely clinical modern prime is Thypoch's Epoch Coating 84', a 1980s-inspired coating that intentionally keeps a warmer, more nostalgic rendering and produces distinctive gold and purple flare when you shoot into the light. The barrel is machined brass with glass elements, and the focusing helicoid runs on a crescent-shaped focus tab down to a 0.5m minimum focus distance, with a tactile detent at 0.7m that marks the end of the rangefinder-coupled range. It takes common E39 (39mm) screw-in filters and is offered in black or silver. Choose the lens on its own, or the bundle that adds Thypoch's dedicated lens hood for extra flare control in harsh side light.
