Description
The Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 is a full-frame, all-manual prime built for photographers who want the classic 35mm street-and-documentary perspective with a genuinely fast f/1.4 maximum aperture. Originally launched in Leica M mount and now offered natively for mirrorless bodies, the Simera 35mm brings modern optics into a compact, all-metal barrel that feels closer to a hand-finished rangefinder lens than a mass-market kit optic. It is a fully mechanical design with no electronic contacts, so focus and aperture are set entirely by hand, giving you the deliberate, tactile shooting experience that manual-focus shooters are looking for.
Optically the Simera 35mm f/1.4 uses a 9-element, 5-group formula that includes three high-refractive-index (HRI) elements and one aspherical element, paired with a floating-element focusing design that keeps sharpness consistent from the 0.45m close-focus limit out to infinity. Wide open at f/1.4 it delivers strong low-light performance and clean subject separation, while the 14-blade diaphragm renders background bokeh as smooth, rounded highlights instead of the polygonal shapes typical of lenses with fewer blades. Stopped down through the f/16 minimum aperture, edge-to-edge detail and low distortion make it equally at home for architecture, travel and environmental portraiture.
Handling is where the Simera earns its following. The lens body is machined metal with a smooth, well-damped manual focus ring and Thypoch's signature 'Sun/Moon' aperture ring that switches between clicked stops for stills and de-clicked, stepless operation for video. An active depth-of-field indicator on the barrel makes zone focusing fast on the street, and the 49mm front filter thread accepts standard ND, CPL and protective filters. At roughly 330g and only 66.4mm long, it stays out of the way on a compact mirrorless body, and it can be used on APS-C cameras as well, where it delivers a slightly tighter, standard-length field of view. Available in Sony E (black) and in Canon RF and Nikon Z in black or silver.
