Description
Most of the sources that end up feeding a commercial paging or background music amplifier are unbalanced consumer gear - a streaming box, a media player, a tuner, a computer sound card, a satellite receiver, a jukebox or the output of a small mixer. The TOA U-01F is the 900 Series module built for them. Its 220 k-ohm unbalanced input presents a genuinely high-impedance load that will not drag down a lightly buffered consumer output, and its on-module gain control spans -30 to 0 dB so a hot source can be trimmed down to the amplifier's rated level without clipping the input stage.
TOA rates the U-01F for adjacent sources - runs shorter than roughly 15 feet from the host unit - because an unbalanced connection has no common-mode rejection to fall back on over distance. Within that range it is the cleanest and least expensive way to bring a line source into the rack: frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz within 1 dB, distortion is 0.05 percent or less at 1 kHz, and noise sits at a very quiet -106 dB. Input sensitivity is rated at -20 dB and is adjustable from -20 dB up to +10 dB. For longer runs or noisy electrical environments, specify the transformer-isolated L-01F instead.
The module terminates in a female XLR jack and installs from the front panel of any TOA 900 Series host: the eight input ports on the A-903MK2, A-906MK2 and A-912MK2 mixer power amplifiers and the M-900MK2 mixer preamplifier, the W-906A and W-912A in-wall mixer power amplifiers, the two dedicated 900 Series module slots on the 800D Series digital mixer amplifiers A-812D, A-824D and A-848D, and TOA's 9000M2 Series amplifiers, which accept existing 900 Series input modules. It draws just 4 mA from the frame's 24 V DC rail, and at a maximum 75 g it is the lightest module in the group.
