Warm Audio WA-DBjr-OD Dirty Boy Jr. Tube-Emulation Overdrive Preamp

Amp-in-a-box, direct-to-desk or straight into a tube head: the Warm Audio WA-DBjr-OD Dirty Boy Jr. Overdrive handles all three. Built around the acclaimed Dirty Boy Preamp circuit in official collaboration with founder Danny Gomez, it runs on his proprietary T.A.E. (Tube Amp Emulation) technology to deliver the touch-sensitive response, harmonic richness and dynamic cleanup of a vintage tube amplifier without one in the signal path.

The Variac control is what makes this more than a conventional overdrive. Borrowed from the practice of starving a vintage amp of voltage, it dials in progressive sag, compression and voltage-starved fuzz textures, so one pedal moves from transparent boost and edge-of-breakup shimmer to thick, saturated drive. Gain, Tone and Volume round out the panel, whether the Dirty Boy Jr. is used as an always-on tube-style boost, a dirt box in front of a clean amp or a complete preamp.

Two outputs make it rig-agnostic: the speaker-emulated line output is voiced after a closed-back 4x12 "Greenback" cabinet for mixers, interfaces, front-of-house and FRFR speakers, while the instrument-level preamp output feeds conventional amps and effects loops. Grey steel enclosure with Dirty Boy artwork, true bypass, 9V center-negative power, and hand tested in Austin, Texas.
