The Yamaha DUGAN-MY16 is a 24-bit automatic microphone mixing controller card for compatible Yamaha digital mixers and signal processors. Using Dan Dugan Sound Design technology, it automatically distributes gain among active microphones, supporting 16 channels at 44.1 or 48 kHz and eight channels at 88.2 or 96 kHz.

Designed for conferences, broadcast production, houses of worship, panel discussions, and other unscripted multi-microphone applications, the DUGAN-MY16 reduces the need for constant manual fader riding. The Dugan Speech System automatically recognizes active microphones and adjusts individual and overall gain while maintaining natural room ambience and avoiding the abrupt opening and closing associated with conventional noise-gate automixing.

Three operating modes adapt the card to different workflows. Standard mode provides 16-channel automixing, High-Rate mode delivers eight channels at sample rates up to 96 kHz, and Shared mode combines eight automixer channels with eight channels of general-purpose ADAT optical I/O. Multiple units can also be optically linked for larger microphone systems.

Dugan Speech System Automatic Gain Management

The DUGAN-MY16 does not simply mute microphones that fall below a fixed threshold. Instead, the Dugan Speech System continuously distributes system gain according to which microphones are receiving speech. When one participant speaks, that microphone receives greater gain while inactive channels are reduced. When several people speak, available gain is shared among those active channels.

Three Operating Modes for Different Workflows

Standard mode provides 16 channels of Dugan processing at 44.1 or 48 kHz. High-Rate mode provides eight channels at 88.2 or 96 kHz for systems operating at higher sample rates. Shared mode supplies eight channels of automixing alongside eight channels of general-purpose ADAT optical digital I/O.

Expandable Multi-Microphone Systems

Two ADAT optical connectors allow compatible Dugan units to be linked in a ring. Yamaha specifies support for linking as many as eight units, enabling systems with up to 128 automatic mixing channels at 48 kHz or 64 channels at 96 kHz when configured with multiple DUGAN-MY16 cards.

Remote Control and Level Monitoring

The Ethernet connection supports Dugan Control Panel software for remote configuration and visual level monitoring. Yamaha identifies the software for Windows and Mac workflows, allowing engineers to observe automixer activity and adjust supported parameters without depending solely on the host mixer's control surface.
